17 Epic Styles for Hair Flipping — and How to Achieve Them

Discover these 9 epic hair-flipping hairstyles for those moments you need to get a little snarky, redeem your dignity, or plain old prove yourself to your friends. Be warned: Hair can get epic.

1. Beyonce’s Big Wavy Hair

Nothing says “I’m awesome” like wild, unruly hair. It shows you’ve got spunk, and hair to go with it.

For those of you who don’t have naturally curly or wavy hair, using a hair curler will get you this epic hair-flipping look.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Section your hair into quadrants or three different areas.
  2. Start with the bottom section. Using a hair curler, wrap a smaller section of hair (about the thickness of your finger) around the wand. Hold for 5-10 seconds. Be careful not to burn your hair!
  3. Repeat with all sections of hair.
  4. Use hair spray for added volume and lasting texture.

To perfect this look, avoid combing at all costs, even if you have to toss out the hair brush before flipping.

To create this look:

  1. Part your hair clean down one side.
  2. Using a flat iron, curl the ends of your hair on one side of your face in towards your neck. Curl the other side outward.
  3. Flip away!

  2. Using hair curlers or rollers, wrap and roll damp hair from the ends to the roots. Be sure to roll the top of your hair away from your face.
  3. Leave overnight.

Don’t forget to bend your head over before flipping!

6. Demi Lovato’s Cool Flip for Summer

Hair gel isn’t just for the gents. To achieve this super easy look, apply a small amount of hair gel or oil on your palm and massage it through your hair, from the roots to the ends.

7. This Silver Toss with a Straight Fringe

If you don’t have hair bangs, it’s time get in on the action with a few simple tips.

For this look, you’ll need a pair of scissors and a trusty hair dryer:

  1. Section a “triangle” along your front hairline.
  2. Hold this section away from your face and comb through.
  3. For a straight fringe, carefully cut hair in a straight line. For uneven, side-swept bangs, start out from the middle and make your way towards the sides of your face. Cut according to desired length.
  4. If you wish, follow with a blow dry.

Here’s a great video tutorial on cutting your own hair bangs.

15. Katrina Kaif’s Wet Hair Look

It takes skill to go for the wet hair look without making it look greasy or oily, which is why this hairstyle is 2017’s hottest trend. You can wear it slicked back or loose, like Katrina here.

Go for this flip with a few easy steps:

  1. Run a comb through your hair to get rid of tangles.
  2. Apply a small amount of hair oil and smooth out your hair.
  3. If you prefer, you can also tease out the hair on your crown for a more voluminous look.

16. Arnold’s “Whatever” Football-Head Flip

If you grew up in the early 2000’s, you’ll remember Helga’s favorite neighborhood friend. For this look, you might have to be an animated character, but if you already have that covered, just part your hair down center with a baseball cap. Say “whatever” with Arnold’s heavy lids, too.

17. Angelina Jolie’s Epic Soft Hair Tousle

We couldn’t end this list without Angie! This A-lister regularly transitions from Hollywood to the UN with effortless style and a flip or two.

The best way to achieve this look is with the Overnight Sock Bun hair trick.

To begin:

  1. Gather all your hair into one ponytail.
  2. Using a hair donut or “sock bun,” roll your hair into the heart of the donut, beginning from the ends to your hair. Work your hair towards the roots of your hair.
  3. Leave overnight.
  4. In the morning, release hair and flip it with attitude.
